Aoife O'Donovan with special guests Hawktail

Date: Friday, September 24, 2021
Time: 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Grammy award-winning songwriter and musician Aoife O'Donovan is one of the most sought-after singers and songwriters of her generation. She has released three critically-acclaimed solo albums, is co-founder of the bands I'm With Her and Crooked Still, is the featured vocalist on The Goat Rodeo Sessions with Yo-Yo Ma, Stuart Duncan, Edgar Meyer, and Chris Thile, and spent a decade contributing to the radio variety shows Live From Here and A Prairie Home Companion. Hawktail is a rising Americana "supergroup"ť and includes members of Crooked Still, Punch Brothers and the I'm with Her house band. She has a chill-inducing vocal that shines, haunting you with each word and phrase she spins within the loom of her storied songs. Evocative and siren-like, smoke-tinged but tender and inviting. O'Donovan has a range that is enviable to most, she elevates and opens it only at moments when it is most needed for full impact. Brian Carroll, Red Line Roots Please check our website for the COVID-19 policy for the KCP Presents Series.

The Perils of Mr. Punch

Date: Sunday, September 26, 2021
Time: 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Coming to Highland Center for the Arts: Modern Times Theater Presents "The Perils of Mr. Punch, Episode #58: That's the Story of My Life." This is the one and only Punch and Judy, presented live, and updated for the 21st century. After 359 years Mr. Punch has decided to write his autobiography. But, writer's block, laziness, and a pesky virus keep getting in his way. All the while, Mr. Punch deftly removes your bad mood, whilst he exhausts your child! Meanwhile, Judy struggles with unruly plumbing while avoiding the jaws of the carnivore du jour! And, feast your eyes upon the diaper change that should not be! The hand puppets are created from up-cycled designer trash and performed in an eccentric itinerant puppet stage. The show is hosted per tradition by a "bottlerť," the uku-lady Rose Friedman. Justin Lander, showman of the absurd, portrays all the characters. The program is rounded out with live music played on a variety of instruments, from the cornet to the bicycle pump. It's a low-tech old-time spectacle, entertaining to people of all ages: from one to one hundred.

Modern Times Theater has been adapting and updating Punch and Judy puppet shows for over a decade. Co-founders Rose Friedman and Justin Lander are a husband and wife duo, producers for Vermont Vaudeville and alumni of the Bread and Puppet Theater. Parents themselves, they strive to present quality entertainment that the whole family can enjoy. Reserve your free tickets at highlandartsvt.org.
