Getting To & Around the Northeast Kingdom

BY DRIVING

The Northeast Kingdom is located in the far northeastern corner of Vermont and includes the counties of Caledonia, Essex and Orleans. There are two interstates that lead into the region: I-91 & I-93, making access to the region easy and accessible from all points in the Northeast and southern Canada.

Major state highways include routes 2, 5, 14, 15, 16, 58, 100, 114 and 122, not to mention many more roads in the tri-county region. For more information on the state highways in the Northeast Kingdom, check out the Vermont Agency of Transportation for road maps on particular towns needed.

Commuter Buses

Rural Community Transportation (RCT) is a non-profit transportation brokerage that uses all modes of transportation including shuttle commuter buses, wheelchair accessible vans, taxis, and volunteer drivers. For the most complete and up-to-date bus route information, please check out the RCT Routes section.

Coach Bus Lines

  •  East/West: Rural Community Transportation (U.S. 2 Commuter Route) travels to Montpelier, Vt., where travelers can pick up a Greyhound Bus. Please note that you may have to make a special request of the RCT driver to stop at the bus stop in question. You may want to call ahead to make sure this request can be fulfilled.

BY TRAIN

There is no train service that comes or goes into the Northeast Kingdom. Please check out Amtrak and make any necessary bus services as needed. You may also may be able to make rental car reservations from that particular destination. Please check out the chamber in that particular region for such rental car services.

Cabot Folk Club Presents Brett Hughes

Country-crooner and bluegrass picker extraordinaire visits Cabot for a rare solo performance on May 9th. Brett has been a mainstay in the Burlington music community for decades. He spent years hosting the ever-popular "Honky Tonk Tuesdays" at Radio Bean. The number of bands he has worked with over the years is staggering, including but not limited to the Chrome Cowboys, Belle Pines, Cider House Boys, viperHouse, Mike Gordon And Ramble Dove, Whiskey Likkers, The Decentz, Fortune Tellers, All Fall Down and a great many more. Brett sings with the pep, energy and tone that simply screams bluegrass, in all the best ways. While Brett is decades deep in the industry and still sings like it's day one. He has cited a number of influences for his style, including George Jones, Merle Haggard, The Delmore Brothers, Bill Monroe, Johnny Cash and his own mother.
