Realizing that buying gear was always a hassle, involving long four- to six-hour trips to the closest uniforms and boots or even tactical gear, Chris and Carolyn Haggett decided to do something about it. The Haggetts and Timsons have opened up St. Michael’s Defense to help serve local and state police, military, EMTs and firefighters, as well as the local community with their tactical work-gear needs.

SMD Outdoors is the expansion of St. Michael's Defense. We are a veteran-owned business that offers gunsmithing services, laser engraving on non-organic materials & hunting/shooting & retail fishing equipment. Classes are also offered.

​As the business has grown, the firearms and knife selections have expanded and the shop now offers FULL customization, with the help of our local and loyal clientele.

St. Michael’s Defense was started by Combat Infantry veteran Christopher Haggett and his wife, Carolyn. Chris served for 15 years, with four years spent in the Middle East. While in the military, Chris worked for line-infantry companies as well as working with Special Operations units in Active Duty and Vermont Army National Guard. The Haggetts now run the shop with Kenny and Melissa Timson.
